releasing timeless music has always been one of the main aims of hivern. sometimes, this purpose asserts itself in curious manners. take margot s moderno , a track made in 2003, several years before the label was born. actually, when pepe and giaga produced the piece for a punk oriented art installation, margot didn t even exist as a project. 14 years later, moderno sounds as fresh and contemporary as it can be. it s one of those cuts that chases a very specific idea with a very unconstrained scheme, that knows exactly where it wants to go, but is not sure about how to get there.

a concept album is the best way to get back to being agan. -amplification of movements- (2017) is the first full-length album of giuseppe carlini, already a member of plaster with gianclaudio h. moniri (kaeba). a work inspired by and dedicated to the natural reserve of vico lake, in italy. during a four-year period, from 2012 to 2016, the artist focused on the wildlife of the area in the province of viterbo, considering it both as an inspiring muse and an object of study. -amplification of movements- was developed little by little, in the wake of an -onion- architecture and layered in six songs which inevitably reference the nature of the site. the parallels between the place and the music are also to be found in search of a sound, which is balanced between field recordings and self production.

gary caruths sad city project has progressively attracted ever more praise, not least since his shapes in formation album landed last year. straddling purest ambient and abstract rhythmical electronica with a unique approach that is all his own, caruth is returning to emotional rescue with a 10inch that revisits three of the tracks from shapes in formation and magnifies them as the longer form versions they originally were. music removed was a particularly strong track on the album, and this new extended version lets the pneumatic percussion and soulful vocal croon bleed together in the most captivating of ways. patterns sounds even more elegant in its pagan ambient finery with a longer run time, and vexillations flits between poised static and cascading chimes with the deft touch that has come to define the sad city sound.

back to back 70s roots shots from joe morgan, his first and second ever tunes. while many know joe from his wackie s anthem basement session, joe was already producing himself in the mid 70s on his own afro black label in jamaica before coming to nyc. both of these tunes are stone cold classics long hunted by roots collectors, and the rhythms used should be familiar to astute listeners from other brilliant cuts. joe continued to record and produce himself and other artists on his own main imprint fish tea, and other labels label thru the 80s. the two tunes issued on this fish tea 12inch both originally appeared as afro black label 45 s in jamaica, and the b-side also on a pet shop label 45 in nyc

joe morgans stop them is killer late 70s militant roots, self-produced and originally released on his own jomor music house label (under the name billy joe morgan) in nyc. awesome vocal, majestic horns, heavy rhythm, a shining example of the brilliance of late 70s roots reggae and how perfectly suited the style was for the extended mix 12inch single discomix format. we ve added something special for this reissue (now on joe s main imprint fish tea). not only do we have the original 12inch replicated in full, but also an awesome and previously unreleased late 80s digital recut of the tune entitled warrior. unfortunately a dub version for this cut was never mixed, but we are grateful to have uncovered another gem from mr. morgan, one of the crucially under recorded and underrated artists of his time.

his time the tramp crew serve you with a delicious double sider by wayne mcghie. -the love you save- was never released when recorded in 1972 and this long-lost track is now available here for the first time on 45! in 1972, wayne signed with record producer greg hambleton and, with former members of the hitchhikers, recorded a couple of tracks including -love is the answer- and -the love you save- at toronto sound studios. -love is the answer- was released later that year as a 45rpm single with the instrumental version on the flip, however -the love you save- was never relaesed. now, more than four decades later, the music of wayne mcghie has been re-discovered and his songs and musicianship are finally receiving the attention so long deserved.

originally released in 1978 on greg charmichaels red greg records, ‘lady bug’ and -love bug- are probably bumblebee unlimited s most recognizable hits. now repressed on the get on down label ... with an undeniable groove, signature keys and arrangements by patrick adams in addition to the comically sped-up vocals, lady bug is considered by many to be one of the most important underground tracks of the disco era. as with the original -lady bug- 12- single, the john morales and frank trimarco -sunshine sound- mix takes the a-side of the rca release. a true disco version in every sense of the word, this almost 10 minute mix brings out the latin percussions to the front making it a true dance floor classic and establishing john morales as one of the best remixers in the industry. the b-side belongs to one of new york city s hottest djs at the time: larry levan. despite being a very early remix by the legendary paradise garage dj, the talent was evident and his understanding of a club mix in wide display. it’s no wonder larry levan would go to become one of the most respected and revered remixers of his generation.

it’s been a long time coming. after raygun, conscious mind, void vip, stolen desire and a host of other guest appearances over the years, it was about time spirit delivered his first full solo release and it has certainly been worth the wait!
‘international’ has already been causing some severe destruction in the hands of those dj’s fortunate enough to have early access. an unrelenting frenzy of thunderous bass, seesaw amen fills, cavernous reverberating drums and hypnotic pads spiralling towards it’s intense surging apex. creeping synths, stripped-down militant rhythms and stealth subs provide the perfect vision for the title track, ‘stalker’ before ‘look out’ completes the journey with a brooding bass overload, surrounded in huge atmospherics and mystical echoing vocals.

wer so groß ist wie grönemeyer, der muß nicht auf verkaufszahlen schielen und kann in ruhe so ein album machen wie es bleibt alles anders ist. da wird dem hörer schon einiges abverlangt. die stimme lässt keinen zweifel zu: das ist schon herbert aus bochum aber in großer experimentierstimmung. so erinnert fanatisch musikalisch sehr stark an -riders on the storm von den doors, während herbert seinen bedrohlichen text offenbar in einen telefonhörer hineinsingt. das titelstück wiederum ist ungeheuer dynamisch und intensiv. beide vereint die tatsache, dass man der message wirklich nur mit hilfe des cd booklets folgen kann. ich dreh mich um dich erschließt sich hingegen sofort: der komponist von flugzeuge im bauch hat das balladenschreiben nicht verlernt. bleibt alles anders ist ein komplexes kunstwerk. man muss sich sehr darauf einlassen und wird dafür mit wachsendem hörgenuss belohnt. was grönemeyer über die dauer von mehr als einem jahr in enger zusammenarbeit mit dem programmierer alex silva geschaffen hat, findet man auf dem deutschen markt so schnell nicht noch einmal. wolfram lumpe

indira paganotto returns with her third pooledmusic ep, featuring a pair of remixes from label boss ian pooley. having made her debut in 2012 aged just 19, indira has spent the intervening years honing her sound and exploring new approaches to music. currently based in madrid, paganotto s father was a dj in goa, where she spent a significant portion of her upbringing. having grown up with her father s collection of trance, acid & psychedelic rock records, paganotto s eclectic musical education has informed her music s individuality. her 2014 solo ep time out man blended these inspirations into a pair of evocative house grooves. this development continues with kashmir & savannah, both of which find the 24-year-old producer in confident form. ian pooley provides a pair of his own trademark dancefloor-focused dubs to complete a package that confirms paganotto as a new talent in the ascendancy.

the sadly departed jaki liebezeit was the kind of drummer whose influence will be continually recognised over the decades to come. best known for his work in can, there are also many more sides to this singular sticksman, and emotional rescue has chosen to shine a light on his post-can period living in stollwerck. on the a side of this 7inch curio is the sound of phantom band with linear johnson & the protons. rush rush has a spiky new wave bent to it, but still liebezeit s drumming stands out. the b side drums off chaos need little explanation its the sound of one of the all-time drumming greats letting rip in a ferocious blast of percussive abandon.
